(Port) Wine of the month June 2022: Niepoort Garrafeira 1965

One must be at the right place at the right time. For example at the coincidental birthday of Niepoorts Port-winemaker Nick Delaforce whilst not having had a proper Port on the day. So why not open a Garrafao (demijohn) from Nick’s birth-year with enough volume for a whole regiment: decanted 1992 (put from the cask to the demijohn): Very dark red color with a hint of brown reflections on the rim. Mixed herbs, chocolate and floral fresh residual red fruit on the nose. Perfectly integrated acidity, herbal notes and traces of eucalyptus and menthol. Well balanced aftertaste with a lot of finesse. Not for sale. 18/20
